Colorado’s First NEVI-Funded EV Charging Station Opens Along Economic Corridor
Jan. 17, 2025
The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation (Joint Office) is thrilled to announce the opening of the first electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Colorado funded by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program. The station, conveniently located off of I-70 in Frisco, a popular tourist destination due to its access to scenic trails and ski resorts, will house 12 chargers – making it the largest NEVI-supported station to date.
Colorado has shown its commitment to a future in which everyone can choose to ride or drive electric. The state currently provides substantial tax credits and rebates for EV purchases that every Coloradan is eligible for and has a growing EV charging infrastructure.
“Colorado is a leader in vehicle electrification,” said Gabe Klein, executive director of the Joint Office. “In 2024, Colorado was first in the nation for market share of new electric vehicles. This new NEVI station will help meet the growing demand for EVs and make charging more convenient along the I-70 Mountain Corridor for travelers, tourists, and locals.”
With more than 5,500 ports already on Colorado roads, the addition of this new NEVI station will help keep up with demand for charging in time for increased travel during ski season along the I-70 Mountain Corridor. Located at the AC Hotel Frisco, the opening marks the first of at least 60 NEVI-funded sites expected to open in the Centennial State.
The Joint Office is working with all 50 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico to ensure the success of the NEVI program. NEVI is a concerted effort to ensure the EV future of tomorrow is thoughtfully planned, efficiently built, and meets the needs of all Americans, regardless of where they live.
