Careers

The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation (Joint Office) and its partners are looking for talented individuals interested in helping deploy a network of electric vehicle (EV) chargers, zero-emission fueling infrastructure, and zero-emission transit and school buses across all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. See below for current opportunities.

The Joint Office is hiring for federal and fellowship opportunities within the following core sub-teams:

The Data and Analysis team leads key activities that will ensure effective data collection, management, and analysis to support programmatic evaluation and inform EV charging and related technology program implementation. This team guides stakeholders on implementation, evaluation, and improvement to related technology programs to ensure a convenient, affordable, reliable, and equitable EV charging network. This team works with the U.S. Department of Energy national labs, U.S. Department of Transportation Volpe Center, other government partners, and the private sector to ensure the nation's EV charging infrastructure is built on the most cutting-edge data and analysis and is focused on evolving the technologies for futureproofed infrastructure investments.

The Communications and Education team leads key activities to inform and educate stakeholders and partners about Joint Office programs, resources, and activities. They bring knowledge, ingenuity, and implement communications and education strategies to engage diverse audiences around efforts to support transportation electrification. The Communications and Education team also provides communications support to other Joint Office teams, as well as the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Transportation, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to align messaging and outreach across federally sponsored programs. They support states, cities, and local communities with information and resources to implement investments in electric vehicle charging and zero-emission passenger, transit, and heavy-duty vehicles.

The Technical Assistance and Implementation team provides technical advice and direction to states, communities, tribal nations, and other key public and private stakeholders on planning and implementation of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program, Charging & Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Clean School Bus Program, and the Federal Transit Administration's Low or No Emission Vehicle Program. This team brings knowledge, expertise, and experience to develop, enhance, and implement a national network of electric vehicle chargers and zero-emission fueling infrastructure as well as zero-emission transit and school buses.

The Standards and Reliability team is responsible for leading activities to create standards and best practices for charging infrastructure deployment, improve the customer experience with public charging infrastructure, and ensure that Bipartisan Infrastructure Law investments result in a convenient, affordable, reliable, and equitable national charging network. This team works with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national labs, U.S. Department of Transportation Volpe Center, other government partners, and the private sector to improve the reliability, security, and interoperability of our nation's EV charging infrastructure. The Standards and Reliability team also supports the Joint Office Technical Assistance team to help states and others create and execute charging infrastructure deployment plans. Finally, they work with DOE program leaders to accelerate the electric utility sector’s efforts to support the national charging network and power the nation’s shift to electric transportation.
