To support electric ridership across the nation's public transportation systems, this page contains information on technical assistance and resources for school districts, transit agencies, and riders of all alternative fuel transportation modes.

The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation's (Joint Office's) mission is to accelerate an electrified transportation system that is convenient, affordable, reliable, and safe. To fulfill this mission, it is critical that communities across the nation have access to information and resources on a variety of alternative fuel transportation options, whether it be cars, buses, bicycles, scooters, or shared fleets.

The Joint Office and our partners, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), are ready to assist with your school or transit bus electrification journey. Federal Programs Across Modes of Transportation

The federal government supports the transportation sector to bring electrified transportation options into communities across the country.

School Buses

The Joint Office has partnered with EPA to provide technical assistance for the EPA's Clean School Bus Program. The Clean School Bus Program provides $5 billion over five years for grant and rebate programs to replace existing school buses with alternative fuel models.

Shared Fleets

The Joint Office provides technical assistance to support the FHWA administered Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program and National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program which support electric vehicle travel across corridors and communities. The CFI Community Charging Grant Program connects taxi, carshare, rideshare, ride-hail, and other modes of electrified transportation options.

Transit Buses

The Joint Office has partnered with the FTA to offer technical assistance on the FTA Low or No Emission (Low-No) Vehicle Program and other U.S. Department of Transportation FTA funding programs.

Multimodal Hubs

The CFI Community Charging Grant Program is supporting all forms of electrified or alternative fuel transportation modes, including bicycles, scooters, micromobility, and microtransit by deploying charging infrastructure in public locations.
