Electric Vehicle Working Group

The Electric Vehicle Working Group (EVWG) was formed by the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation to make recommendations to the Secretaries of Energy and Transportation regarding the development, adoption, and integration of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty electric vehicles (EVs) into the U.S. transportation and energy systems.

The EVWG was established on June 8, 2022, pursuant to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, enacted as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (Public Law 117-58). The EVWG operates in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), as amended, 5 U.S.C. App.

Mission and Objectives

The activities of the EVWG include:

  • Provide recommendations regarding the development, adoption, and integration of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty EVs into the transportation and energy systems of the United States

  • Coordinate and consult with any existing federal interagency working groups on fleet conversion or other similar matters relating to EVs

  • Report to the Secretaries of Energy and Transportation; the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee; the Senate Appropriations Committee; the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; and the House Appropriations Committee.

Reporting objectives include:

  • A description of barriers and opportunities to scaling up EV adoption throughout the United States

  • Examples of successful public and private models and demonstration projects that encourage EV adoption

  • An analysis of current efforts to overcome barriers for EVs

  • An analysis of estimated costs and benefits of any recommendations of the EVWG

  • Any other topics, as determined by the EVWG described in section 25006 (c)(1) of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
