Electric Vehicle Working Group

The Electric Vehicle Working Group (EVWG) was formed by the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation to make recommendations to the Secretaries of Energy and Transportation regarding the development, adoption, and integration of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty electric vehicles (EVs) into the U.S. transportation and energy systems.

The EVWG was established on June 8, 2022, pursuant to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (Public Law 117-58). The EVWG operated in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), as amended, 5 U.S.C. App.

Activities and Objectives

Learn the mission and objectives of the Electric Vehicle Working Group and see how members are working to make it easy, safe, and affordable for everyone to choose to ride or drive electric.

  • Provided recommendations regarding the development, adoption, and integration of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty EVs into the transportation and energy systems of the United States
  • Coordinated and consulted with any existing federal interagency working groups on fleet conversion or other similar matters relating to EVs
  • Reported to the Secretaries of Energy and Transportation; the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee; the Senate Appropriations Committee; the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; and the House Appropriations Committee.

  • A description of barriers and opportunities to scaling up EV adoption throughout the United States
  • Examples of successful public and private models and demonstration projects that encourage EV adoption
  • An analysis of current efforts to overcome barriers for EVs
  • An analysis of estimated costs and benefits of any recommendations of the EVWG
  • Any other topics, as determined by the EVWG described in section 25006 (c)(1) of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Reports

The EVWG announced the release of a report providing a comprehensive update on the adoption of EVs in the United States. The report, Initial Priorities of the Electric Vehicle Working Group, provided a high-level overview of the EVWG’s plans to address challenges to EV adoption.

Recommendations of the Electric Vehicle Working Group - 2024 provides initial recommendations to address top challenges in the light-, medium-, and heavy-duty EV market.
